BrandContent joins the Living Wage campaign, paying wages that reflect the REAL cost of living

We are celebrating our continued commitment to fair pay by becoming formally accredited as a Living Wage Employer through the Living Wage scheme.

We have been unofficially paying the Living Wage to all employees at BrandContent, including cleaners and office maintenance staff, since we first started in 2014. Nothing has changed materially but we are pleased to receive external recognition for our dedication to fair pay.

Rachel Besenyei, Head of Business Growth at BrandContent, said:We are incredibly proud to be one of the only agencies in Wales supporting this initiative, and we hope that this inspires other agencies and businesses across Wales to follow suit and pay their employees a wage that reflects the rising cost of living across the UK.”

The Real Living Wage is an hourly rate that is independently calculated each year based on the cost of living. It is higher than the government minimum wage and is designed to encourage all employers to ensure their employees earn a wage that meets the actual cost of living. This is different in comparison to the government’s ‘minimum wage’ and even their ‘Living Wage’, because neither of which are calculated in accordance with the actual cost of living for employees and their families.

Founded in 2011, the Living Wage Foundation has contributed towards a pay rise for over 200,000 people and put over £1 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

BrandContent joins big household names like ITV, Google, IKEA and Oxfam who also voluntarily pay the Living Wage.

Katherine Chapman, Director at Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that BrandContent has joined the movement of nearly 6,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like BrandContent, believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”

Rachel said:Employee health and wellbeing is really important to us as an agency and so we’re keen to ensure our staff are financially literate, have stable employment and are not spending time worrying about money and whether they can afford to live day to day.

“To mark the end of the financial year, a financial adviser has also been invited to BrandContent to speak to each member of staff about their personal finances; offering tailored advice suited to their needs.”
